Who?, 2019

Oil on Canvas.

1200 x 910 mm

Themed under "transparency", I explored the 3 elements of transparency; transparent, translucent and opaque. An era changing message throughout the artwork influenced by these 3 elements: the figure-myself beckons the audience on how transparent I am to them, am I concealing myself with the drape, am I hiding the truth by turning away. In contrast to the nude-representation, literally "unmasking" my innerself. The ever contradicting factors are what represents my identity, a chaotic individual incapable of putting his emotions into words.

Who? | 2019 O'Level Coursework

In 2019, out of the few themes for our O'Level Coursework, I chose the theme "Transparency", hoping to explore the renaissance-baroque-classical romantic period style of dynamic bodies and oil paints. In the 9 months of coursework I experimented and studied 3 elements I felt closely related to "transparency"; transparent, translucent and opaque. These 3 were then tied to specific physical mediums, glass, fabric and the body/flesh respectively. Glass being transparent whilst embodying the aspect of reflection. Fabric folding over and acting as a perfect midpoint of defining and masking the draped subject. And the body, physically "opaque" yet gesturally expressive and descriptive through many factors.

Below is the visual journey of my prep-boards across the 9 months.
